Apple announced today that they will be putting out a lot of new products. Among these will be a completely new lineup of iPods, as well as a completely revamped Apple TV device. Just when I think I’m getting caught up with all of the new technology, they drop a bomb like this. It used to be enough that iPods simply played music and had a great interface. No longer.
The newest iPod shuffle is the smallest ever at just over 1 inch square, but still has all of the features of past iPod shuffles. The iPod nano gets a much fancier upgrade with a new multitouch screen much like that of the iPod Touch and iPhone. It comes complete with a built-in FM radio, pedometer, Nike+iPod functionality, and a clip so you can attach it to your clothes. Oh, and you can listen to your iTunes music too – all 16GB of it at the highest capacity – with a battery life boasting 24 hours of music playback. All this in a 2 inch square device. The newest iPod Touch is basically an iPhone 4 without the phone functionality, so you can now video conference with your friends or take photos and videos all with an iPod Touch. The days of a music device just playing music are long gone.
The Apple TV was no slacker either. It’s a fraction of the size of the original Apple TV, but does a lot of new things such as streaming Netflix, movie and television episode rentals, and streaming photos/videos from your computer. At just $99, the new Apple TV may actually be a success for once.
Apple continues to raise the bar in every arena. They are constantly at the cutting edge. Just when their competitors are starting to catch up, they release new products that blow everything else out of the water.
